As far as being "better" than Into the Wild, well, they're too different for me to compare them that way. Both films are great.

But thank you for recommending Wristcutters. It was a real treat.
yeah they are much different kind of movies..although in some ways they explore similar kinds of stories you know. Sort of seeking out a solution or path to find their way.

Like I mentioned, some people feel like you do, that ItW got dissed at the Oscars and was an epic masterpiece. I guess part of it for me was it looked really up my alley, and while seeing WC's beforehand kinda affected my viewing, I also just maybe expected to be more blown away by it. Suppose I could go for another viewing. A lot of those same people last year talked about CHILDREN OF MEN in a similar way..I felt maybe even worse about that and also dissappointed..it was just so dark and depressing..it was a job to sit through, especially the 2nd (and 3rd?) Acts.

but WC's..yeah glad you got to see it..I wish more people did..I think it's done better in DVD sales/rentals as I noticed a bunch of copies at Hollywood recently. It was in my top 5 films of last year anyway.

I saw 2 films back-2-back that kind of fucked up my viewing of the 2nd as well earlier this year. SNOW ANGELS is probably my favorite movie this year. But it was pretty dark and forceful in some ways given the 3rd Act's events. But what ultimately got me won over by it is how much I had to think about the ending afterwards and how and why it was written how it was. I then saw MEET BILL with Aaron Eckhardt, and while that film I enjoyed, it just paled so much in comparison in the impact it left me with, I might have gained more from it had I watched it at another time.

I just watched an episode of Austin City Limits in which Death Cab for Cutie and My Morning Jacket played.

My Morning Jacket. Goddamn. Magnificent. I know, I know y'all have been recommending this band forever and I'm just now giving them a listen. They are wonderful. So glad I finally slowed down and gave them some time.

I watched 'Sigur Ros - Heima' on my On Demand Comcast...thingy. It was quite awesome, particularly with the surround sound. I'm getting more and more hyped up for this Sigur Ros show.

Oh god that film is incredible. I've watched at least four times, and I've never even moved onto to the live stuff. I just keep watching the film over and over.

          I'm seeing them in Chicago!

Just saw a matinee of the new X-Files with my brother. It was much betterthan I was expecting, well worth the matinee price ($6.50), but I don't think it was good enough to warrant a full ticket ($9.00), maybe a 6.5/10, if ou want to rate it thaty way.

It played out just like a two hour long episode. never really watched the show, but like I said, it was a cheap ticket, we didn't have the time to see Dark Knight (again) and we were too late for Hellboy 2.

Home sick today. Watching Waiting for Guffman.

These people! The woman with the claw bangs! The poor closeted man! The wonderful teenage girl who works at the Dairy Queen, and doesn't realize she's dying of boredom.

                  Good Lord!

                      A documentary titled Stone Reader.

It's about a man who reads a brilliant, beautiful, pivotal book (The Stones of Summer), and then decides to find the author. This book had been positively reviewed in 1972, but has been out of print for 30 years, and the author (Dow Mossman)is a recluse.

It takes the man over two years to finally locate the author, and in that time he interviews literary critics, writers, agents, publishers, and former friends. They discuss books, their influence on us, how we read, and why we read.

There's also interesting conversation on the state of publishing today, the fact that this book would not have been published today, and that today's average reader wouldn't find this book "accessible" anyway. Good film!

so, what brought about the reprinting?

The book is back in print because of the film. I've not read it, but I hope to one day. It certainly sounds like it will be difficult book for me, but I'm very interested in it. The author said that he tried to make every page a poem.

He also had a nervous breakdown during the editing process.

just for a documentary? pretty intense.

                            oh, and book publishers suck.

No. :-) The author had a nervous breakdown during the editing process for the book.

                              And yeah, publishing houses suck.

i meant the reprinting the book just for a documentary.

auto-de-fe added 0 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

seeing is how docs have such a small market in the states.
