Traceable watermarks changed the leaking game considerably. Anybody that has any hopes of running a legitimate blog/website does not leak albums anymore. If they did, they wouldn't receive promos from anyone.

yeah, I would think that anyone with music production or audio engineering programs could easily defeat the traceable watermark problem, but I guess no one's really gonna go out of their way to do that.

This is true, but to my knowledge scene rips don't come from those methods. So what watermarking does is make it a longer process while eliminating the potential reward. So what incentive does a person holding an advance have to remove the watermark and create a P2P release? To please a few friends that you don't trust enough with the watermarked copy? I think it's safe to assume that if the promos weren't watermarked there would be a leak by now.
