that was me last night. drank an entire jug of liit. and it wasn't exactly hitting the right spot either...it kinda put me in a dark place, which was unexpected. i've come to the realization that it's definitely a tegan drink, not a sara drink.

So some smartass posted that dredg ripped off another song for The Tent. While I don't blame dredg, I certainly do wonder about Dan's motives/knowledge of this:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I mean, you can't mistake it. It's like that time those guys presented Hideo Kojima with the music of a Russian composer that was obviously the "inspiration" for the theme to Metal Gear Solid. He was visibly crushed. That's how I feel.
I'm quoting myself because this conversation has now gone around enough times that we're just repeating ourselves.

My points were, as I originally said:

        1) I hate hearing about stuff like this.
        2) Dan, being the songwriter in this case, was the focus of my concern.
        3) This discovery crushed me because of how much I love the music.

Drew's comment supports what I thought and hoped: the band just didn't know. I'm fine with that. Still love the song.

That song is so blatantly ripped there is no way that dan didn't know about that song.

Honestly i couldn't give two shits.

The combination of the 3 bass notes, that wah-wah-guitar sound and the hypnotic rhythm seem to have been an inspiration for The Tent. But "blantatly ripped off"? Come on, those are completely different chord sequences and different melodies. For me, a ripped off song is something that steals either chord progressions or melodies from another song, not guitar sounds...

Umm, that's basically all there is to the verse save vocals....

Same here. We can go in circles talking about Dan the Automator, but we've heard directly from the band we're discussing that they didn't have a hand or even know about the similarity. They held up their end of the collaborative effort with no wrongdoing (unless you really, really hate Gavin's vocal line ), and I think that was the main concern.

And to comment on a post a couple pages back, I also think that Pariah was their best album (although I love all of them), and I'm even one of those crazy religious types

And if you don't agree, you're going to burn for eternity.

Seven. One to change it, five to complain that the old one was better, and one talk about Gavins weight.
