If Maynard + Robert Fripp is happening, wouldn't there be MORE discussion about it already?

Adrian Belew, Jeff Fayman and some member of Asia also supposedly involved.

Mike Portnoy claims to be part of every possible project. He claims to be working with Steven Wilson and Mike Akerfeldt, also. Personally, I think Gavin Harrison, Gene Hoglan, and Martin Axenrodt would all be better fits than Portnoy. I guess none of them have his sexy arms (yes, that's severe sarcasm).

I just listened to the two tracks on the website and have the following comments:

1. The "Album Preview" sounds cheesy as hell.

2. 21st Century Schizoid Man sounds nothing like Fripp (other than covering a song that he co-wrote) or Maynard. If that really is Maynard singing, his voicebox must have been crushed. The drums also sound programmed, which makes me seriously doubt the authenticity.

3. I'd love to hear Maynard and Fripp collaborating, but if that is what they come up with, such a shame.

Portnoy never claimed to be part of this as far as I know, I just noticed someone on the Mars Volta forum mention he is. He may be, and just hasn't said anything about it yet.

Well, I hope it sounds better than that clip of 21st Century Schizoid Man. I love that song and I'm a huge fan of Fripp and Belew, but that is not very good. They took a great song and made it sound cheesy as hell. Maybe they can get Michael Bay to produce a music video for it. It could just be a compilation of big explosions. I don't know, the tone of that song just irks the crap out of me. I'm much more excited to hear the DTS mix of the real deal.

Yeah, I'd agree with that, definitely for Thirteenth Step. Mer de Noms still felt like someone elses music, but Thirteenth Step just felt like Maynard took over too much. Still love the album, but it feels very different than Mer de Noms.
