Re: The Human Experimente (Maynard, Robert Fripp from King Crimson)
Mike Portnoy claims to be part of every possible project. He claims to be working with Steven Wilson and Mike Akerfeldt, also. Personally, I think Gavin Harrison, Gene Hoglan, and Martin Axenrodt would all be better fits than Portnoy. I guess none of them have his sexy arms (yes, that's severe sarcasm).

I just listened to the two tracks on the website and have the following comments:
1. The "Album Preview" sounds cheesy as hell.
2. 21st Century Schizoid Man sounds nothing like Fripp (other than covering a song that he co-wrote) or Maynard. If that really is Maynard singing, his voicebox must have been crushed. The drums also sound programmed, which makes me seriously doubt the authenticity.
3. I'd love to hear Maynard and Fripp collaborating, but if that is what they come up with, such a shame.

Reason: Realized I misspelled Steven. Oops, and I call myself a Porcupine Tree fan.

It isn't bad.

We'll fuck standing and we'll fuck then lying, if they had wings we'll fuck them flying, when they are dead and long forgotten we'll dig them up and fuck them rotten.
Re: The Human Experimente (Maynard, Robert Fripp from King Crimson)
nah, it's real, however important it is to both Fripp and Maynard. Fripp's posted stuff about it on his blog even (I don't have a link)
Portnoy never claimed to be part of this as far as I know, I just noticed someone on the Mars Volta forum mention he is. He may be, and just hasn't said anything about it yet.
The Human Experimente has been designed as a unique recording project utilizing the talents of a compilation of various high profile music artists, much in the style of a collective series release usually found in chill-Out or lounge/house genres like Buddah Bar or Cafe Del Mar. However in this case, instead of contemporary electronic dance, down-tempo and/or exotic world music, The Human Experimente collection presents grandly cinematic structured songs—compositions conceived to sound like music for imaginary films.
Flaming BackThe songs presented by The Human Experimente — with “21st Century Schizoid Man” representing the first — will have no specific agenda, style or thematic genre. Instead, they are simply meant to be listened to on an individual basis purely predicated upon the merit of each song itself.
“If within our collective consciousness the muse of musical inspiration strikes, and angels blowing golden trumpets lead us astray from our Earthly sleep, then that song may be considered a prime candidate for production by The Human Experimente.” -remarks Fayman
The styles of the songs that will be included within the first compilation from The Human Experimente (slated for early 2010) will range from intensely dramatic industrial rock, to beautifully melodic– and almost operatic– themes. The executive producer/composer/creator behind The Human Experimente is Emmy Award winning musician/composer Jeffrey Fayman. Fayman primarily works in the motion picture industry with Immediate Music, composing cinematic trailer music for the advertising campaigns that promote many of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster feature films and highly rated television programs, TV movies and specials.
The major contributing artists involved with The Human Experimente include Robert Fripp (“King Crimson,”) John Wetton (“ASIA”/”King Crimson,”) Maynard Keenan (“Tool,” “Perfect Circle,” “Puscifer,”) Adrian Belew (“King Crimson,”) U-G-O (Rap artist “U-G-O” with Sean Kingston,) Anneke Van Giersbergen (“The Gathering,”) and Dann Pursey (“Globus” and “Vantan.”) Various additional artists will be joining the collective within the near future.

Well, I hope it sounds better than that clip of 21st Century Schizoid Man. I love that song and I'm a huge fan of Fripp and Belew, but that is not very good. They took a great song and made it sound cheesy as hell. Maybe they can get Michael Bay to produce a music video for it. It could just be a compilation of big explosions. I don't know, the tone of that song just irks the crap out of me. I'm much more excited to hear the DTS mix of the real deal.

^--- This is true of most Maynard musical projects besides APC.
APC isn't completely devoid of that essence, either.

Yeah, I'd agree with that, definitely for Thirteenth Step. Mer de Noms still felt like someone elses music, but Thirteenth Step just felt like Maynard took over too much. Still love the album, but it feels very different than Mer de Noms.
