Seeing as how you found Hellraiser scary.. A lot of my friends are completely desensitized by stuff like that...
Which I think is a shame.. I love getting scared!...
Me too!  That's why The Ring was such a treat.  I can't remember the last time I was that frightened by merely watching a movie.  Getting creeped out or surprised is one thing, but The Ring literally frightened me.  I wish I could talk about which scene, but I don't want to give out any spoilers.

What got to me about Hellraiser was the horrid violence.  I wasn't scared but the violence upset me.  I realized I was miserable about it, so I just quit watching it, which is rare for me.  I hardly ever give up on a movie like that.  I plan to read the book one day.  I'm embarrassingly ignorant of Clive Barker.

Lucky for me, I'm a pussy, and get scared almost as easily as back when I was 6

Yeah really. I mean who gets scared anymore anyways?...except for Trathena of course

Way too many to name but Dead Alive is essential if you like humor with your gore and I'd recommend Cemetery Man to anyone with an open mind.

and SAW can DIE already...even part 6 is official now

Saw 1 was alright. Just downhill from there though.

i thought saw would have been a great if it had decent acting.  i thought the directing was spot on.

I am the minority that is looking forward to Saw IV. Another good horror movie, that is kinda creepy: The Descent.

I thought The Reaping was pretty alright. And it's about to be out on DVD. Or maybe it already is.

The Grave Dancers was great. The Descent was the best horror movie in a long time. The Devil's Backbone was wonderful if you like Pan's Labyrinth.

Grave Dancers was great!  Loved the Descent, that was terrific!  Still need to see 28 wks later!!!

BTW, there's another set of "8 films to die for" this year, it's from nov 9-18 @ select theaters:

Nightmare Man was HORRIBLE, I saw the screening for it since a friend of a friend worked on the movie.

Mulberry St. (similar to "living dead" or 28 days later) & Tooth & Nail look pretty interesting.

Blood Car, whores. Rent it, download it, I don't give a fuck, just watch it!

                            Don't Be Scared, also. Master P + oscar-level material = muy delicioso.

You wanna sit around and write haikus about my box???

dude, good calls everyone. The descent is an excellent movie.

                              Evil deads (random gore)
Session 9 was an awesome independent movie
                              Blair witch one and two
Dawn of the dead (new and old)
Frailty was a good thriller/scary movie
The Re-animator was gory but horribly acted and stupid

Bewitched was a pretty terrifying movie.
Google "Nutsack" and see what kind of pictures come up

These past few days I've seen
The Beyond - brilliantly graphic death scenes but that's about all it has going for it
Brainscan - very original, soundtrack rocks but the chick should've been a lot hotter
Bad Taste - Peter Jackson's directorial debut...one of my all-time faves...smoke em if you got em
TCM 1-4 - including The Next Generation which according to IMDB is one of the worst 100 films of all time. Whatev. This spoof blows the mainstream remake out of the water. The black humor was apparently way ahead of its time. Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey both starred in this way before they got famous which is icing on the cake
The Dentist - very few films can still make me cringe but this is one of them...holy shit

*Student Bodies and Night of the Creeps should really get the DVD treatment already

                                Added after 2 minutes:
