yeah, i think this album is better than the other two.  it took a few spins, but i am hooked.  they found a good balance with everything (no filler).

It has now become my belief that Tool and The Mars Volta are locked in a battle to see who can create the weirdest album that contains the highest crap to good ratio and the highest nonmusical noise to music ratio.  They're just trying to see who can put out the best album with the most random shit on it and see which band gets more praise for it.

Tool started the race, but TMV are catching up as of late.

It is also my belief that the two bands exist soley to have a majority of their audience think they know everything about music and what makes good music.

I mean its a generalization but from my experiences most of the fans that listen to these two bands are the type of people who listen to this music just to say that they are a Tool fan or they are Volta fan, and are the type of people who ignore other music simply because a certain demographic likes them, and they think that the people who wrote it are Gods to music who have blessed just them with this amazing music that is the best their is, even though most of it isn't music, its just organized noise, made to trick you into thinking that a lot of thought went into it when it actually was probably just put together mostly by a computer program and really has no human creativity qualities to them.

I have no clue if I am making any sense, but I'm pretty pissed off tonight so.

eh, i guess there are quite a few people who think that way.  i just listen to what is enjoyable.  i really like the mars volta and definitely get that kinda crap from people at times.  "they're pretentious pricks" and so on.  it's not so much a matter of what went into the production of their music, but the result.  with a band like dredg, they're my favorite band because i know of the thought that goes into it and they're great guys who care about their fans.  so, hopefully that makes sense, but i know plenty volta fans who truly enjoy it for what it is.
