    Tanbark Lyrics

I know someone has been saying this for a long time now and I never agreed until now.

It is definitely "The old returns while the new can bore"

even though I think conform works much better, I'm about 95% sure its not conform.

      OHHH YEA!

Well the deal I made myself is that I SEEERIOUSLY doubt I'll have the fortitude to not listen to all of it before it comes out... but what I did was checked out the new versions of the coquette demos, and spitshine, which I had NEVER heard before, and it's so ungodly perfect!!!

Basically knowing that I dont have it in me to keep it from myself, I made the deal that after I hear the songs at The Icon in Buffalo when they play, I'll be able to finally check em out. and I'm DYYYING to hear the ones that I havent heard. With all this buzz about Planting Seeds being this ground-breakingly badass track (which I ALSO have NEVER heard), I think I'm gonna go @#%$ insane!! I believe a quote on it from here was 'has to be heard to be believed', I havent even heard it yet, and I'm already creaming myself! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

hate to say i told you so..

but dredg have made an indie rock album..oh pavement its not..but look where indie rock is now..interpol..and its not hard to see..th delay pedal is king..

strangely th one i immediately dont like very much is matroshka.. its doesnt sound lk u2 so much as it sounds lk.. gin blossoms or something..a little too neutered..you can definitely hear th edge all over this though..or..you know..greenwood..seriously..th man's going to get carpal tunnel from all th double picking..

i like it though..or think ill like it when theres a rip that isnt so rough..

thanks to whoever ripped it and everything..tip of th hat.. just wish i couldnt hear th hi hat fluttering at th edge of th bit rate..

          Lyrics

I think this whole album is great but if you want to talk about corny lyrics I have allways thought the lyrics "Flowers next to graves and babies being born where people go to pass away" on triangle were corny as hell. As was "japanese millage, crossed at the ankles" on convalencant. Just my opinion, anyone have any thoughts on this?

              Re: yessum.

Alright, I was just talking to my friend, and I came up with a mini-theory on Matroshka out of nowhere. Give me your thoughts.

GAVIN I was looking down at you smiling up at me

For once I held you tight, but shattered hands grabbed at me

You're head was in the clouds, now those clouds are in your head

It's when you needed me, so I listened to what you said

GIRL Look another year went by,

              They keep passing by,

But damn I didn't even die,

To hold it so I've grown,

              I fought time but lost

GAVIN It was love like a callas you scarred enough to be

Tough and immune, your body adapts you see

To all above my head, and all below my feet

No that's one freedom you'll never take from me

GIRL Look another year went by,

              They keep passing by,

But damn I didn't even die,

To hold it so I've grown,

              I fought time but lost

GAVIN To criticize and judge, how did I end up here,

With these standards opposed to love, make me disappear.

              GAVIN Hold tight, hold tight

GAVIN To criticize and judge, how did I end up here,

With these standards opposed to love, make me disappear.

To criticize and judge, how did I end up here,

With these standards opposed to love make me disappear.

GAVIN Hold tight, hold tight, hold tight, hold tight

GIRL Look another year went by

GAVIN Hold tight, hold tight, hold tight, hold tight

May not be the best of theories, as I just thought of it. But Gavin mentioned a lot of the songs are conversations between two people. If these Matroshka lyrics are interpreted as a conversation, they seem to make sense (to me), and bring a kind of 'open' closure to the relationship/album/concept. Thoughts?

                Re: yessum.

By the way, I think the lyric "but shadow ends grabbed at me" in Matroshka is actually "but shattered hands grabbed at me".

Also, it might be "forced to love" rather than "opposed to love".

                        Re: Catch Without Arms discussion.

How come only two people stated why they liked or disliked the album in more then one sentence?

If I were to be an alien and observed this thread, I wouldnt know what to think, but just a bunch of people saying "good", "bad", and "your opinion sucks".

                        Here's my review.

First off, Gavin is singing constantly throughout the album. Why couldn't the band put atleast two instrumentals to break the album up? For the people that feel this makes the album better then El Cielo, do you have ADD? an attention span? etc? haha Dredg took a trip into the mind of a Britney Spears fan.

Spitshine seems to be a favorite among the crowd, yet it contains two verses that really could be considered one with like 5 chourus....this song is by far the worst...."lets repeat the catchy ass chorus 5 times to ingrain the @#%$ words into their brains"

I am also mad because Dino sold out the drums in the second verse...of course they are easier to listen to, but that just means they are BORING, REPEATIVE, and relate to a kid with ADD.

Matroshka sounds like the theme song for Growing Pains and Full House. Maybe if the two shows combine houses "Full House of Growing Pains" Dredg could write the score for the show and make more money.

Not taking away from their artistic talent or anything, but this album is C+ work at best, meaning AVERAGE. this is not special and will not be considered best album of 2005 by any real music fans, however, I would have to ask myself "well then what is?"

If you like fast paced, catchy repetitive song writting then you will think this album is great, but this is not what great music is made of.

Heres to hoping the band makes tons of money off pop fans and goes back to writing an epic work of art...

That was one of the most pretentious, and ignorant comments I've ever seen posted on any messageboard. I can guarantee you that I listen to more music than you; and probably more genres. This being said, Catch Without Arms will be at the top of my year end list, if not number 1. It has nothing to do with who is a 'real' music fan and who isnt. If you're a fan of music, you're a fan of music. That was one of the worst 'reviews' I've ever seen posted, and I frequent the prp. I'm glad that only you and one other dumbass have forced your negativity upon others, because it would be quite annoying if it happened more often.

Alright, I can certainly see your point, but aside from Matroshka, I don't see any tracks that give strong indications of "selling out." Spitshine... yeah, the chorus is big and melodious, and it probably would have been better had they kept the final verse instead of repeating the chorus a million times at the end, but it's still a wonderful song.

Ode to the Sun, Bug Eyes, Planting Seeds, and Jamais Vu are all instant classics and at least rival the best material from the previous albums. As far as I'm concerned, Planting Seeds is their crowning achievement.

Favorite 'new' song: Catch Without Arms

Favorite 'old' song: Ode to the Sun

Least favorite 'new' song: Zebra Skin

Least favorite 'old' song: Bug Eyes

New vs old is just the old demos vs the new leak ones.

I don't like the new Zebra Skin because he changed the lyrics in both the beginning and the end and I don't like the flow of it as much, but maybe it'll grow on me.

Bug Eyes is good on it's own merit but I just don't really think it fits in the album.
