  • Hypothetical: Dream Theater

Ok, I really question this could happen..save for some kind of festival thing, but Dream Theater are going out on tour this summer and have said they will be not doing "Evening With" format (no other bands).

I suspect the dredg fans for the most part would not want to have the band open or probably not even co-headline with a Prog band like Dream Theater.

But just to ask, would most people around here atleast be toitally againt if dredg toured with Dream Theater?

and for that matter..I'll throw the same thing with Porcupine Tree..they are going to be touring this Spring/Summer too..

My guess is neither will happen..but with Coheed and Muse now both booked to Summer tours..among the bands Mike Portnoy likes that he may want to help expose to potential new fans..dredg is one of them. Mike's a dredg fan anyway. I have no clue if the band even listen or know much about who Dream Theater are really.

If it's Porcupine Tree, I'd stay. If it's Dream Theater, I'm leaving the second dredg is done.

my issue would come down to whose recording policy would be used. if the tour used pt's recording policy i would not go or at least i would skip their set (they are anti-recording). i would not mind seeing dream theater.

I don't listen to either. So it'd depend on ticket price.

It would probably work out pretty well for dredg if they toured with Dream Theater..
And it'd probably work out amazingly for dredg if they toured with PT!

As far as I know, they're only anti-recording when it comes to the tour they just finished (because of them playing unreleased songs)

yeh i think that was their problem on the last tour.  though i dont' think they've ever been cool with video.

i'd have to say i really don't care either way.  both bands have some good songs, but for the most part they aren't all that special to me.  i'd go because dredg was there.  i'd stick around for the next act, but if they bored me i'd leave

yea, you got that. Steven Wilson just stressed how he didn't want the new songs spreading..especially since they were not recorded yet and everything. Typically Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson is cool with recording. There is a group on Yahoo who shares Porcupine Tree and Blackfiield shows frequently.

Taping policy or not, I think dredg and Porcupine Tree would be the best fit. I think most people who go to a Dream Theater show are there for the expanse of DT's music library, not necessarily the opening acts. I think that's why the "Evening With" sets have done so well.

That said, even though DT is apparently opening up some slots on tour, I think dredg needs a better fit than being overshadowed by Dream Theater.

could be. i have a taper-friend who seems to know alot about pt and i will ask him.

Added after 9 hours 45 minutes:

pt is now anti-taping, period. regardless of tour.

i'm not a fan of either band, but i would go to that show. i don't know how well dredg would do with those audiences though.

I'd be cool having dredg open for P.Tree. Hell, I'd LOVE that show. But I'd much rather dredg headline.

You might enjoy the new material then. Some of it was very reminiscent of Signify and Stupid Dream as I recall. Either way I think their next record is gonna be great.

Seven. One to change it, five to complain that the old one was better, and one talk about Gavins weight.
