How To Destroy Angels references Zappa.

So, I've been listening to this EP a lot more recently and noticed something. Towards the end of Parasite (4:02), an electronic (keyboard?) melody comes in. Well, I had always thought it sounded very familiar. Then I was driving in my car the other day listening to Sheik Yerbouti by Zappa and figured out where I recognize it from. It's VERY similar to the main riff in Wild Love.

Not hating on Trent here, as I think everyone is destined to sound similar to something that influenced them, and I'm sure Zappa influenced him. Any thoughts?

I think it's completly fine to rip of parts from various sources, as long as the end result doesn't end up sounding exactly like where it's ripped from. We've deliberatly ripped of Bach and some other stuff.

That's kind of what I'm saying. It's not like a blatant rip-off. It's a minor melody in the HTDA song. There's no way to even know if it was done consciously without asking Trent, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

A good example of the homage is Time Flies by Porcupine Tree. You can find several old, familiar riffs in that song, but that's the point. It's a reflection of his childhood, when he heard those songs.

I was gonna say that I'd love to rape you from behind while punching you in the back of the head. Spiritually and psychologically. If I were to do it physically, it would gross me out beyond belief for obvious reasons. Anyway, this whole "rape" thing that I'm talking about and would theoretically love to do to you is very disturbing, considering it's not who I am and it's not the kind of guy I want to be.
