I would try to make a "hate fucking" reference but since listening to a whole album of a band I really don't like doesn't have much of a payoff, it really doesn't work...

I'm a fan of the band and especially of the new album.

I'm not going to say much, because I know most of you hate their previous work, but know this: It's completely different from their past work. Their first two albums - Hybrid Theory and Meteora - were firmly pegged in the formulaic nu-metal genre. They went more alternative-rock with Minutes to Midnight, although there were other elements there.

This doesn't really have a true genre. There's significantly less pure rock on it, a lot of more beats/samples/hip-hop/techno, mixed with a bit of a prog-rock feel (some quiet elements definitely evoke Pink Floyd).

The single doesn't reflect the album. It works within it, and I like it, but it doesn't say "This is what the album sounds like." It says: "This is what one song on the album sounds like. Every other song on the album sounds completely different from one another."

It's a major departure from what people consider to be "Linkin Park" music. Not sure if that makes anyone like it better, but maybe they'll give it a listen for the hell of it.

'Hate' is too strong a word, ' are amused by' is more appropriate. Not many bands elicit such strong reactions of boredom/hate and/or fanboyism then LP.

I read a little bit about it. Sounds like the concept wasn't even the bands idea, someone brought it to them and they said "OK, let's do it." That's kind of a shitty way of doing things. Why make music about something you're not passionate about yourself?
