Could any of you recommend fair history books (eastern or western)?

I've been trying to find something better than the few I have.

well, as a church historian i am rather verklempt. however, what do you mean by "fair" history?

the typical alternative history book that i recommended is howard zinn's a people's history of the united states. zinn is a marxist historian. it is read in many advance placement history courses across the nation.

Zinn's good, He puts a lot of commentary in his writing, but his books are a good read. I finished God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of the Europe recently and I really enjoyed that book.
