So im not sure how many of you actually follow UFC, or at least occasionally catch a few fights. When i was younger i would go to the video store and they would have the earlier UFC bouts and i remember seeing them and it was always some overweight gross guy with no technique beating on another.
Throughout the years it has become full of technique and strategy with very little "drunken bar" fighting style. So i've become a little of a fan. I bought into MMA being a legit sport and i enjoy it more than i do boxing. I bought into the fact that Dana White, the "comish" of UFC, wants the ufc to be more of a sport rather than a drama filled specticle that the WWE has become. And it was that, it became a well respected sport.
Now in comes Brock Lesnar, a former college wrestler turned WWE star, turned failed football star, turned UFC heavyweight champion. Which he procured after 3 fights in the UFC. I disagree with the way he entered the UFC and i disagree with how fast he got a title chance. Usually one in an individual sport like UFC or boxing you have to work your way up the ranks. He did not, he fought 2 matches (one being an undercard) and lost the other to submission. After that he gets a title shot, which is completely ridiculous.
My problem with this whole thing was tonight, UFC 100. It was a large card with tons of big fights. His being the top fight. It was a rematch between Lesnar and the guy who submitted him, Frank Mir. Lesnar is a big man, and he has heavy hands. My problem is not with his fighting style, and mainly his rise to the top is because of the lack of heavyweight stars in the UFC. But with Dana white, the comish, stating that he desires to have a organization of fighters that have class and fight with dignity and then have this man fight in your league... is just horrible.
Tonight Lesnar won fair and square. But before the match he refused to touch gloves with Frank Mir. And that is always expected unless there was a huge grudge between fighters, which there was not. The fight went on and lesnar ended up KOing Mir. Afterwards lesnar got up and screamed "Who's the fucking man!" and flipped off the crowd because they were booing him. Then as he was interviewed by Joe Rogan, he proceeded to say that "frank mir had a horseshoe up his ass, and i pulled it out and beat him over the head with it" Then said, "im gonna go home and drink a coors light, because bud light wont give me any money, and that i might go home and lay on top of my wife." Then after that Mir was interviewed with numerous bruises on his face, proceeded to give lesnar his dues for winning the match and said he needs to work on some things. To me thats the response a champion gives. Not stir the pot like lesnar did and make the person who he has already proved he can beat, seem lower than he is.
So i ask, with having Lesnar in his organization... is Dana White going back on his word on having fighters with class and respect? Because after flipping off the crowd and mentioning sponsers not paying him and having sex with his wife and talking shit after winning a match. How is that any different from the WWE?
