    A friend of mine said they did it for attention. I don't get it. I guess she thinks Iowa just wants to be recognized for it rather than having equality for its citizens. Whatever.

              Iowa gets the ball rolling for lots of campaigns... and it's pretty shitty to think how much power a single state seemingly has in the primaries.

                That is not necessarily true. Tom Harkin is one of our senators. In 1992 he ran for president, he won Iowa and his campaign went no where from there. Huckabee won here this election cycle and that went no where. We don't have a whole lot of power because we are not really worth a lot of electoral points. It just happens to be where all the focus goes because we are first in line. I personally find all the attention annoying.
                As for the gay marriage ruling, I don't care if Iowa did it to be noticed, it was a good decision and I am proud that rationality ruled the day for whatever reasons whether they were alturistic or just because some people wanted to bathe in the public limelight. What matters is the fact that this state refuted the arguement that a segment of our population should not enjoy the same rights as the rest of us.
                I was in my physiology class when the news came down. My teacher is a lesbian and one of the sweetest smartest women I have ever met and I am actually good friends with her. When the news came down she started crying right in front of the whole class. Not many things move me, I am very jaded to life, but that did.

                          Gay Marriage just legalized in Vermont! The State Legislature passed the bill, the governor vetoed, and the Senate and now the State House have just overruled the Governor's veto.

                          This is the first legislative victory for gay marriage.
