Decent game? Yes. Too time consuming? Yes.

A good game that is very time consuming is a bad combination. I have a love hate relationship with RPGs.

I have. It was fun for a while, but Buddy is right. Endless hack and slash. And I really didn't find the story interesting at all. It was, at best, a rape of the fantasy genre.

I didn't find the story interesting until I started playing again for about 2 months about 3 or 4 months ago and I finally started reading the lore. It's not the greatest fantasy story, but it goes pretty deep and it can be pretty interesting.

still, most role playing games never keeps you from the story for very long, often the story is what drives it, not with wow. Wow, IMO, just milks it. The story is a mere obligatory thing, the main draw for most people in building a powerful character but they are chasing vapors cause you can never be the best. I have watched my friend's play it and they just stare blankly as they kill monster after monster after monster. Maybe the raiding is fun but even that wouldn't hold my attention for long while some of my friends literally play it 50+ hours per week. I tried the game on a friend's computer for like an hour, that was all I needed to know that I am not willing to invest a year of my life in it, that would require a very special game for me to throw so much of my time into. If you like wow more power to you, have at it but it is not for me and I will mock those who take it to the extreme, including my friends.
