  • John Frusciante

To go with the discussion in the RHCP thread, I've decided to throw some of John's solo material up for anyone who is interested. The compilations are my favorite songs from both parts of his solo career, but it should be more than enough to use as a starting point.

Tracks 1-10: Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt (1994)
Tracks 11-20: Smile from the Streets You Hold (1997)

I recommend reading the Wikipedia articles for both releases.

Ooga, have you found the Mogul's show of John? It was his first performance after leaving the peppers. He was so emaciated and looked like he aged 40 years. It was really sad. The recording came out terrible since I used a micro cassette recorder at the time, hehehe, so hence the horribleness. He only played 4 songs. The recording of Flea's set of acoustic didleys cannot be found, I lost the micro cassette somewhere. Oh well...

I've never seen or heard it.

The only footage of John during his drug phase that I've seen includes the VPRO documentary (Pt. 1), the Nutstalk performance (Pt. 1), and I've heard (this) Viper Room performance from '97. There's also footage of a Viper Room peroformance HERE (presumably from '97 if one judges the sweater he's wearing, which looks like the same one he was wearing in the Nutstalk footage). Lastly, there's the short film titled STUFF that shows you what his house looked like before it burned down. The selfmade video for Life's a Bath is disgusting.

          Re: John Frusciante

I was at the '97 Viper Room show and I have the lyrics that he wrote for "Metro" I believe, if I recall correctly. I think he couldn't remember the lyrics for it so he wrote it out. Yeah, I can upload the Mogul's show, it was a big night there, Dave Navarro played a few songs w/Campfire Girls, Mike Watt played his solo stuff, I think... Flea played an acoustic set as I mentioned earlier. I only have John's stuff recorded, but keep in mind it's possibly the most horrible recording you've ever heard.
