  • My Dilemma As A Guitarist

I like TOOL, but I'm not sure if I want to be in a band that replicates the same songs or sounds. Don't get me wrong, it's not a cover band for TOOL, but it just seems that way. I emailed one of the guys and he said if I have the skill to be their guitarist then age won't matter. They're in their mid 20s and I'm ... 33, an old timer. I'll feel like Mick Marr (name?) of Motley Crue the token old guy.

I guess I'm feeling desperate to play in a band cos I can't come up with the right players for my music. If this was 10 years ago, I think I would be all over this. My tastes have changed/matured (huh?). I dunno, maybe I can persuade these guys to go a different direction or at least try to expand their musical horizons.

Here's some ideas that this new band have to offer:

BEYOND ORION (russelldrummer)'s profile on Myspace, the place where people come to connect, discover, and share.

    Here's my taste in music:

Listen to music from darshun’s library (130,356 tracks played). darshun’s top artist: Baby Chaos. Get your own music profile at Last.fm, the world’s largest social music platform.

    What do you guys think?

go for it. if it doesn't work out, you can always quit....but you may not get another chance to join again.

I couldn't think of any reason to not jam with other people.

Just go and see where it ends up. If not, it'll improve your playing anyway. The more musicians you play with the better.

Yeah, I'm with ET (and now, theruleofthree too) on this one.

That fact that they're willing to hear you and play with you even though you're, what, almost 10 years older says a lot about them and their maturity. Give them a chance.

if it is your dream, follow it.

plus, you can buy them booze. sorry. couldn't resist. age shouldn't matter if you are good.

Mid-20s is a legal drinking age everywhere I am aware of.

And why not at least give it a chance?

my sentiments exactly, at least join and play around with them for a bit, just to get your name and ability out their for other bands to hear.

                  Don't do it.

I just like to be contrary, I don't really have a reason for you not to do this... specifically cause there is none.

                      Think about it:

                      1. You're obviously into Tool and other bands of that genre.
                      2. If you're skill will allow you to keep up with what they want to do, you really have no reason not to do it. Unless you have other opportunities or ideas in mind for your future.

See, even Ooga can be quite the optimist.

Oh, just don't fuck up or they'll kick you out.
