Subject POTLUCKS + WANT TO PLAY WITH US ONSTAGE?
    Body: POTLUCK GET TOGETHERS
    *************************************
Hello, and I hope you are well! for our upcoming tour we're bringing back the preshow potluck tailgate get-togethers. About two hours before the doors to the show open we'd like to invite you to come to the venue to eat and drink and talk and sing and and get to know each other. We can't feed everyone, so try to bring some food along.
    some suggestions:

    1. making something is preferred to buying a bag of chips (tho there's room for both...)
    2. check your local dumpsters for ingredients (smaller supermarkets w/o trash compacters, bakery/pastry shops, fruit/vegetable stands, farmer's markets [ask for the bruised produce]),
    3. consider dietary restrictions/preferences of others (vegetarians/vegans, kosher/halal, organic,locally grown, etc.)
    4. come, with or without food
    5. bring a board game, horseshoes, pinata, song, dance, prayer, instrument, juggling pins, unicycle...
    6. bring your own plate/fork/cup to cut down on paper/plastic waste
    7. if you have it in you, prepare some sort of presentation or discussion that we can give folks the option to attend. maybe some sort of hands on seminar (bicycle maintenance/repair, woodcarving, how to make your own clothes, etc), maybe a lesson (history, science, book report, etc), maybe a social or spiritual conversation (church&politics, economics, world religions...). I don't know, what do you think?
    8. (sort of an aside) if possible, come to the show on your bike, public transportation, hitchiking, walking, or, if you have to drive, try to carpool.

More important than all this is to bring a gentle, loving heart, so don't pay too much mind to all the details. We aren't exactly hosting this (we'll be loading and soundchecking, in and out and sometimes too hectic to hang out a whole lot), but we're excited to see you and for whatever will come of this, to G-d be the glory amen!
    **********************************

    COME PLAY MUSIC WITH US
    **********************************
Peace be with you! We would like to invite you to come and play music with us during our next tour in two possible ways:

    1. sometimes before the show, if people show up for a potluck we may be singing songs together. this will be informal (if it happens at all), so anyone can feel free to show up with an instrument of your choice and make some sounds until the cops show up

    2. also, we will of course have a scheduled time to perform onstage, songs we've written ahead of time. for this time and these songs we would regrettably like to restrict the invitation to those who are competent enough to play a non-guitar instrument keeping proper time and, if you're making tones, in tune. that is to say, we spent a lot of time writing/practicing/recording these songs so please don't come up if you have no musical experience and don't wing it if you're a half-assed player. (some of us are half assed players, but we've at least rehearsed these songs a lot!).

if you're interested in taking part in this (and are willing to practice ahead of time with our recordings), then come find one of us during the potluck and let us know what instrument(s) you brought and what song(s) you're thinking. We will likely need to bring your instrument into the venue for you (you might not be able to get a fiddle past
security!) A few things to keep in mind:

*please, no electric guitars (we'll have plenty of that already, and no way to amplify more).
*there will be an extra microphone onstage with you in mind, but whether or not it will pick up your sounds will depend on what you're playing and how loud we are at the time.
*we may not play the song(s) you have in mind that night.
*certain songs (four word letter pt. two, the sun&the moon, in a market dimly lit, messes of men) end with improvised length and form.
    be ready!
*musically, we perform "orange spider" live identically to "yellow spider". is in a different key on our record, but disregard this. if you want to practice the horns for this song, better to listen and play along to "yellow spider".
    *************************************

If they get defensive... just ask them what Jesus would do.

Ha, that's funny. I've talked to Aaron and even though he's an awsome guy his theology is screwy. There's no way he would get defensive.

All theology is screwy.  At least Aaron knows his faults.

i don't know what you mean by claiming his theology is "all screwy", but his embrace of islam--evident by his quoting of the qur'an in the dryness and the rain--and judaism is a rare phenomenon in contemporary pop christianity. i would prefer persons like aaron be heard over the jerry falwells, fred phelps, pat robertsons, james dobsons, benny hinns, etc., of this world.

indeed, it closes with an islamic prayer.

                Added after 4 minutes:

apparently the lead singer's mother is a sufi moslim.

Cool interview where he talks about being raised by Muslim parents.

I'm probably going to play with them at the Orlando show, for those in the area.

They should be in Orlando 10 days earlier so I could see them... since I was in Milwaukee when they played Lawrence.
