not when compared to their previous releases. look, we obviously don't agree, so let's just leave it at that. perhaps down the line we'll find something we both like, but until then...

Yeah im gonna have to disagree with the emotion comment myself. I've listened to almost the whole album and i get the same feeling as the other albums really.

            Re: Manchester Orchestra

I've broken down and I will "liveblog" the CD. If nobody interrupts, it will only take up one post
            ---
I don't know if it's my speakers or not, but there is some serious distortion on "Dear". Don't know if I care for that....
            ---
            And I can't read... it's "Deer"
            ---
"Mighty" is probably their 2nd best "rock" song. Only "Pride" tops it from their previous albums.
            ---
"Pensacola" is like it's namesake... not very good. But maybe I'll come around on it? Not a huge fan of the different sections of the song. It works on longer songs (like Weezer and Coheed and Cambria have done), but on a 3.5 minute long song, doing 15 transitions just ruins any progress any of the separate sections is making.
            ---
"April Fool" is pretty much exactly what I expect from Manchester Orchestra now.
            ---
I skipped their concert here last Monday, but listening to "Pale Black Eye" as well as some of the previous songs has me wondering how they would pull these songs off on stage. Are they bringing extra people along with them?
            ---
Unless the last half of the CD is just empty, I don't understand the no emotion thing either.
            ---
            "Virgin" starts out awesome.
            ---
Okay, I can agree with the difference in emotion with "Virgin". In previous albums, that song would have been epic. Here, it's just "eh"
            ---
His vocals on "Simple Math" still freak me out.
            ---
"Leave It Alone" is another "eh" song.
            ---
I'm apprehensive about "Apprehension"'s beginning. Was that intended?
            ---
Vocally and lyrically, "Apprehension" could have been on their other CDs... but the music.... I just don't know what to say about some of the little things in this.
            ---
Another bad pun: "Leaky Breaks". It's just funny since I am listening to the leaked version...
            ---
"Leaky Breaks" wasn't bad... but it dragged on for too long.
            ---
Overall, not as good as their others, but certainly not bad or devoid of emotion.

If the latter part is a shout out to my previous comment, then it is not really what I said. I believe my comment was that it is devoid of the emotion that one comes to anticipate from Andy Hull and the boys. (And if that is not what I said, then I am going to go ahead and take the liberty to edit my post to agree with the later me.) There is certainly no "Where Have You Been?", "I Can Feel Your Pain", "Sleeper 1972", "The Only One", "Shake it out", "I Can Feel a Hot One", or "Everything to Nothing" on this album. It is simply not of the same emotional timbre.

Yeah im just gonna have to overall disagree with you. I think the problem in this album (when there is one) is the same problem dredg has in their new release. At times the song writing is lacking... i don't hear any emotion loss in Andy's voice... like the song Virgin. If that one part that they turned into a whole song was used as an outro or a chorus and wrote a song around it... it would have been an awesome heart felt song. But instead its sucks the life out of the song because it repeats that part too much.

If this is what you are talking about, i think it only happens maybe twice or three times in the whole album and the album as a whole is pretty good. Decent at least.

I think we all get very spoiled with the bands we listen to and we expect a whole album to be flawless, when in fact i think its normal to like most of an album... and not the whole thing. We should be lucky to have so many albums that we like it their entirety.

Great. We all have different opinions about this. I think the conversation has gone about as far as it can go.

Nope. I just thought the conversation was less than productive. Y'all will continue to postulate that the album is either good or their best album yet, and others will continue to say that it lacks the emotional bang of previous albums. If you wish to continue to harp on your position, be my guest.
