Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory (Concept album heaven to me.)
Mansun - Six (For the trippy rock experience, I count this near the top. Absolutely brilliant.)
Delerium - Karma (Never heard so much new age/synth-dance stuff before it)

Groundbreaking from a point of view of it changed the way I listened to/appreciated music then it's-

                      MONTROSE - S/T
                      KING'S X - GRETCHEN..
                      PORCUPINE TREE- STUPID DREAM
                      SAGA-IMAGES AT TWILIGHT
IT BITES - THE BIG LAD IN THE WINDMILL

Groundbreaking from a point of view of genre defining, then it would be

DREAM THEATER - IMAGES & WORDS

Couldn't agree more, but also it blends for me into the "way I hear music" side of things. If not for Images & Words, I wouldn't be into stuff like dredg. It's a long chain that I won't lay out here. Suffice to say that prog style music is my church.

yeah, I'm guilty as charged as well. Nearly every band I have discovered since 1995 I can trace directly or indirectly to my 1st getting into Dream Theater, and the 1st album I liked by them was IMAGES AND WORDS. But to go beyond that, it was Rush and Led Zeppelin.

Return To Forever - ROMANTIC WARRIOR. Jazz-Rock at it's peak in many ways.
