Bittorrent/P2p Help...please?

So I consider myself to know a thing or 2 about computers...but I'm officially stumped. I can connect to the internet just fine, but for some reason my P2p program (Ares) and my Bittorrent program (UTorrent) won't connect...I can't dl anything...so just throw ideas at me until something sticks. I'm running Windows 98SE, which sucks just as bad as it sounds....any help would be appreciated.

Switch to Azureus for torrents. I use that and it works great, never had a problem.

you have to tell your firewall to enable ports 6881-6889(i think)....that's all I needed to do

does Win98 have a firewall built in? I haven't installed one, and I can't find it.

Get XP.... actually, wait and get Vista.... but that'll be like early 07.... so maybe you should get XP.
