That dude needs to stop saying "Rock your face off"

When he started going off on Gavin though, he's completely wrong. If there is anything that's good on this album its Gavin's vocal melodies.

      agreed.
How many dredg fans does it take to change a lightbulb?

Seven. One to change it, five to complain that the old one was better, and one talk about Gavins weight.

Dude... i really can't see how you can think that his VOCAL HARMONIES aren't good... not the album... not his lyrics. But his vocal harmonies? really? Kalathat is the best sung song from Gavin in his career.

                    Downloading now...thank you, ma'am.
I'll never stop looking for new music but I find the older I get, the less new music appeals to me and the more I end up going back to older stuff. I think everyone has that decade of music that they could really relate to. For me, it was the 90s...

I don't look for new or old music. I kind of just let it find me. I prefer it that way. I don't feel like I'm forcing myself to like certain things. It's all about being in the right setting and mood when you first hear it.
There aren't many vocal harmonies on this album to speak of, and Gavin's never been one to harmonize with himself much on their recordings except for effect. He does on Where I'll End Up, but it comes off as mega cheese. We were talking about his melodies, which I feel are predictable, uninspired, and kind of lazy. But that's just my opinion, lately I've taken a liking to vocalists that use note progressions that are unexpected and throw me for a loop. I found myself being able to hum the melodies of this album on the second listen, that's not a good thing for longevity or holding my interest.

Not to say that Gavin's ever been that vocalist to use complex passages, but in the past he made up for it with passion and emotion and with Mark and Drew changing notes often in interesting ways in their older albums, he was kind of forced along with similar interesting note changes. On this album, everything seems very monotone, with the base key of passages staying the same too often, with no better examples than Upon Returning and Somebody is Laughing. And often when things become a bit more complex, it just seems to fall flat, like the chorus of The Tent.

But I won't argue with you over Kalathat, it's one of the few songs that I like on the album, and I think Gavin did a decent job with it. It's great for what it is: a straight forward folk song.

I was using incorrect nomenclature. I meant vocal melodies... not harmonies. Mistake on my part.

I think the vocal melodies on another tribe, upon returning, somebody is laughing, kalathat, down without a fight, and ALL the verses off The Tent are great great vocal melodies. And because of those songs i view this as Gavin's record.

What I enjoy the most about the internet--outside of the copious amounts of turtle porn--is that inane people feel the need to record their asinine 'contributions' to society.

My point is that the reviewers are blathering fools, which is the problem with most media reviews.
