Re: New Record with all formats

Black Light Burns just did the direct download idea. I am curious how well it worked for a small band.

I don't know that I'll ever understand why people download music.

Re: New Record with all formats

I'd honestly pay full price for the album off their website a week or weeks in advance, no problem... But ONLY if it were a high bit rate and not just some weak leak sounding crap...

...on top of that, not only would I buy the official "leak" for full price. I'd buy the album once it physically came out. AND on top of that, if they offered some sort of "Exclusive" (more expensive) behind the scenes-esque CD\DVD release OR Download release, I'd buy that...

...I'm seriously down to pay dredg all the money they want to get their music PLUS the bonus stuff. If anybody deserves it, in my eyes, it's these guys...

I've only ever downloaded things that were A) never going to be available for purchase anyways (Undo, Coquette, early demo stuff from a band I know the singer of (Arizona)), or B) I heard only one song from the band and had been burned too many times in the past buying the CD and finding out that "one great hit" was written by someone other than the singer/band. I typically will give a few to a bunch of songs a listen, and if they're good enough for me to want to listen to more than twice, I buy it. I did that with Muse, and they're one of my favorite bands ever. I've also found great music by doing the impulse purchase, but those were VERY few and VERY far between (Mansun, Big Wreck, Delerium, The Music).

So in short, I'll do a download as a try-before-I-buy thing. I then delete the music regardless of whether or not I purchase the album. To me, there is absolutely no difference between doing that and hearing it on the radio, or having it as a favorite on Sirius so I can hear it every time it plays.

And for the record, I'll buy this digitally if it comes out that way. Then I'll buy the CD. Cuz I love their CD booklets. And I want the damn CD. That's just me.

Meanwhile I have a friend who is totally "that guy" who is all "why should I pay for music when I can just get it for free?" He's also one of those guys that says "No one else uses a blinker when they drive, why should I?" "My vote won't change anything, why should I pick the President?"

                Fucktard.

Legal downloads are what I was referring to. I know why people do non-legal ones. But why pay for a few files on your computer? You're screwed when your HD dies.

Um, only if you're dumb. A) You should be backing up your HD. B) If you're buying downloaded music, BURN IT!!! That being said, I would only buy downloadable content if it were CD Quality Bit Rate. Anything low just pisses you off.

Obviously, I download "leaks"... But I almost always buy the leaks (that I don't think a crap) due to the fact that I want to support the artist AND that the quality is usually shit...

...with dredg, I'd buy their album (physically) regardless of their download quality, that is if the downloadable was offered first... For me, there really is no substitution for actually owning the album with the officially printed artwork and lyrics and such...

not sure how familiar people are with girl talk, but his fanbase is likely a bit smaller than dredg's and he just put his cd out digitally well before the physical release as either high quality mp3s for $0-$5, the mp3s with flacs and a single file of the cd for more than $5 and $10 for the cd and everything else offered.

i thought that was a great way to put out music when the fanbase is just beginning to blossom. dredg will do something creative with the release one way or the other.

I wish dredg would put out a vinyl they could include some large prints of Drew's paintings and if they had a download of the album come with it that would be awesome. I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes. Especially if they looked AND SMELLED! like hotcakes.

I just want them to finish releasing all of the CWOA posters. I don't think it will happen, but I can wish.

                                another question:
what happened to the cwa making-of and the ode to the sun remix?
