Re: Album Discussion: Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
The way i look at it man, i used to be quite the critisizing music listener, and i dont want to sound holier than thou at all, but now unless it is cringe worthy (which i will admit there are some cringe worthy portions of music on this album. So in that respect touche) i have alot of respect for people that do anything recorded and release it. So for dredg to go this route and try and make a good record, and in my opinion do it decently well, i have alot of respect for all of them. As far as him not putting as much into it? i might agree with you a tad, but he's still making records... which means its still a passion for him. So he's gotta be giving enough to fulfill his passion. I think thats good enough for me.
and what are you trying to say at the end there? I mean, there are times when a lyricist will say a word that doesn't necessarily fit in the flow of the line... but they use it anyway and sometimes just doesn't sound right. Is that what you mean? Or do you mean it in the sense you want him to be more direct with what he is talking about? To me, neither is the case here. Its pretty much a little quip of a post chorus, that for me, encompasses the whole song's meaning. Trying to be positive even though terrible stuff is happening. Just like Mark said in that interview. Its probably nice to make a record that they don't HAVE to group everything into a certain idea. I like music that keeps it vague and leaves the interpretation completely up to the listener. Except for songs like Kalathat, where the lyrics take a different route and are more direct and storylike. I think Gavin has slipped a tad as far as lyric writing. But i'll tell ya what he's doing fine and dandy is vocal patterns. I've really been digging where Gavin has gone as far as experimenting with vocal patterns.
