Withholding opinions for a bit, because if I posted right now it would sound trite and mean. More listens first.

Wooohoo, we can all be the cool kids now! On my second listen, too early to give any solid opinions, but it's definitely different...in a good way I think.

It is. The studio version is heavy balls, the live version...not so much.

first of all, i love the fact that dredg constantly try to change. but that's the concept of the band i guess and everyone who wants el cielo or cwa or whatever back is on the wrong track with this band... i like the new album although i have to say:

I FUCKING HATE "WHERE I'LL END UP"... seriously. if that song was on the radio i would deny being a dredg fan since el cielo... people have been talking about cheesy stuff on tptptd...but this is the ultimate CHEESE OF DOOM. it fucks up the album as i have to skip...something i never did before...

and yes i do have a life and other stuff to do.
pre-ordered cd and lp and going to see them in germany.
love the band, like the album, but hate this song...

            cheers

the leak got taken down can someone help me out?
How many dredg fans does it take to change a lightbulb?

Seven. One to change it, five to complain that the old one was better, and one talk about Gavins weight.

Here's my review, after two listens.

Another tribe: Reminds me of Mourning this morning with the cello or whatever that instrument/effect is at the beginning of the song. It is difficult to assign this song to dredg. Minus.

Upon returning: Kind of a cool vibe, I only heard the live versions couple of days ago and I like the album version more, but would like it more with the guitar more "guitary" less broken car exhaust. The part from 2:20 until the end of the song is really Dino groovy, I can see him hittin' 'em drums with sticks through the roof. A plus from me.

The Tent: When it started, I thought I forgot to turn off HustlerTV. It's really porny and Sade/Massive Attack like. Boring drumming. Give Dino his parts back, come on! Also, minus.

Somebody is Laughing: I'm gonna hear this one a few more times. Plus.

Down Without a Fight: Definitely a favourite. Plus. I liked this one at first hear from the clip on Facebook.

The Ornament: Nice to hear something familiar. It fucking rocks. Plus. It gave me the chills, the creeps, the everything I want from a dredg song. Wonder if I should stop listening here?

The Thought of Losing You: Heard this one before as we all did. This is Pariahs Information, I think. They're the same, nothing special, catchy songs. I'll give it a plus just to make the albums grade higher.

Kalathat: Nice road trippin' song. Plus.

Sun Goes Down: Minus because I gave Kalathat a plus. I'm starting to get scared how this songs will sound live.

Where I'll End Up: My God it's a song to light your lighters and sway like waves. Why would they record it, it's cheesy as Switzerlands and the Netherlands' basements. Minus.

Before It Began: If they make a video of it, John Wayne should definitely star in it. Minus.

It's close, 6:5 for plus songs. Not a great album, but will buy it, support the band in hope the next one will be 10:1 or maybe 18:0.
I'm a simple man. I like pretty dark-haired women and breakfast food.

Upon Returning does seem to be one of the few well-written songs on the album and the production or lack thereof makes it very hard to listen to.

As for the Tent, if Dan wanted to make a Mike Patton song, he should go back and work with Mike.
                              ---
I have to say, I'm probably not going to pay for this album now. Sucks for them about the preorder getting canceled.

OK, because I now have the leak, I can offer my opinions. I know you've all been waiting with bated breath.

                                Another Tribe
I love the opening. I think it set a good mood for me with this first listen and got me into what I should probably expect as a whole. Unfortunately, the chorus doesn't quite get up there with the rest of the song for me. But, this IS a first listen.

                                Upon Returning
This song couldn't have gotten any better from the live version in my opinion. I know many of you fell head over heels in love with it, but I flat out hated it. I don't hate dredg songs. I hated that one. But this... this I can get behind.

                                The Tent
Ooooh, the one that so much debate is over... I'm giddy with anticipation! And the verdict after listening: GOD DAMN, that is good. Best of the first three tracks by far, I think. I'll be honest, when that first chorus hit, I was like "eh?" But by the end of the song, it all just clicked for me. I hate to get my hopes up, but I think my prediction of kinda loving this album may come true yet...

And now I'm going to just listen to the whole album without stopping after each track. Future Fawst will complete this post.

Future Fawst, here. On with the impressions.

                                Somebody Is Laughing
I love the idea of the song more than the song itself, but it certainly isn't bad at all. I do like the song. It will grow on me.

                                Down Without a Fight
I love it as much as I knew I would from the "mask" video. Not much to say about it.

                                The Ornament
How can you not like this? It's just so warm and vibrant. I will always love the instrumental from CWA, but it's so great that they produced a studio version with lyrics. Big fan.

                                The Thought of Losing You
I am unashamedly in lust with this song. It does things to me that I enjoy too much to worry about silly things like long term commitment. But... I know it will always be there, too. So I get the best of both worlds.

                                Kalathat
It's just so depressing, knowing the story. Hauntingly beautiful, though. Very powerful. I almost wish it wasn't on the album because of what it represents. Almost.

                                Sun Goes Down
Enjoyable. Nothing that really reached out and grabbed me, but it did brush its finger tips against me. I'll come back to it later and see what it was trying to tell me. I want to know.

                                Where I'll End Up
Never heard the "original" version. It's kind of just fluff to me. Not bad fluff, but... not really needed. *shrug*

                                Before It Began
Now I'm convinced that initial reactions to this album were garbage and had no meaning on what my overall impression would be. Because this is a GREAT track. Probably shouldn't have closed out the album, but that's the beauty of MP3's: you can order them how you see fit.

                                Bottom Line
It's definitely dredg, it's definitely nothing like their previous albums and I definitely love it. I already knew that I was a dredg-lover, but this just confirms it. It's not going to please the people who have been chasing El Cielo this past decade, but I think those people will never be happy.
