Ironically, those demos also sound better than the album version of "Musical Chairs" that leaked recently. I'm becoming convinced that getting a big-name producer is just asking for trouble these days (with a few exceptions). Terry Date practically ruined CWOA, Dan shat all over this album if "Upon Returning" is any indication, and Joe Barresi appears to have neutered FtM with their upcoming release. Meanwhile, picking the little-known Rascovich for TPTPTD was probably the best decision dredg ever made. Hopefully they'll go back to him or someone else who's less established and bound to the "norms" of the industry for the next one.

I disagree. I hear that a lot, especially with Fair to Midland, but I just don't get it. What some people call 'character' in Coquette or Inter.Funda.Stifle, or the demos or what have you, I call rough, dull and pitchy.

I'm all for perfection in the recording. And there's a reason why the major label producers get paid by major labels. I agree they can tone down the "loudness wars" though, but I'd take that over an out of tune half-job.

Man, I'm glad I hated the live recordings of Upon Returning. That song is really great on the record and had I liked he live versions, I would have listened to them too much and expected something.

So where did you get the album from?

I work at a paper and we got a promo copy from Superball.

So promo copies are indeed out. How long till I can finally decide about this album myself. Not gonna hear the clips. Always hated those clips. Listen to some of the clips for older songs and the clips just don't capture the songs...i.e. Sang real or the canyon behind her

This album is going to win hearts and lose hearts like none other that I can recollect in recent years. You all may not agree with my rating (most will view this review as harsh), but I encourage you to give it a read and leave your thoughts, hopes, rants in a respectful manner anyhow.
