At this point, yeah, they're all watermarked.

Every so often mine has a rift from Michael Jackson's Bad. I assume that is a watermark....

Here's my half assed review of the album...

First off. I did NOT get the album from anybody on this board. I was NOT PM'd a link and I did NOT PM users that have it. I simply found it on the internet (as vague as that is, it's true). Also, like Gnomad said, I will not be the one that leaks this because whomever the source is, I don't want to get them in trouble...

After a couple listens through, I'm also still on the fence about it but I don't see this album living in my car as long as the previous albums did. It's definitely dredg going in a different direction, which I absolutely 100% respect, I just don't think I like the execution of it. The bottom line for me is that I don't think I like Dan the Automator. Why take one of the most appealing aspects of the band (Dino's Drumming) and process it into programed beats? And where did Mark go? Sure, there's guitar in most of the songs but it feels as if he's disappeared. They could have EASILY made this album with just Dan the Automator and Gavin.

One of my favorite aspects to dredg's music is the studio work. The layering and nuances you don't pickup the first few times around. This album seems to lack that (though in all fairness, this album is still new and I might be missing it). Every song is fairly straight forward. This is officially the first dredg album that I've listened to where it lacked a "WOW!" moment. At no point of this album did I hear something that I didn't expect to happen and thought to myself, "Wow! What a great idea."

It seems to me that Gavin took a different song writing approach when it comes to the verse's in the song. The verses on this album are a lot of fun and actually hold most of my favorite parts of the album. Conversely, the chorus' on this album for the most part seem "meh". Not bad by any means just nothing stood out as "above par".

The highlights for me were Another Tribe, Down Without a Fight, The Ornament and The Thought of Losing You. And like Gnomad said, The Thought of Losing You really is one of the highlights of the entire album. If your not a fan of it then this album might not be for you. But hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm not trying to come off as a negative Nancy but this is how I feel after the first few listens. Let's see how I feel about it next month. I could be singing a whole different tune.

Overall, Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy get's a 6.5 out of 10 from me. I don't dislike it but I'm not in love with it either.

Long days and vague clues with the origin of this leak.....

Anyway, Clubber, would you compare the overall disc to the listening experience of Catch Without Arms? I thought that CWA was pretty simplistic after hearing Leitmotif and El Cielo. Thanks for your early review, it was a good read.

here we go, go again, following all the trends...it's become an obsession, time to accept it...

                            Another Tribe:
Gave me a very similar wtf moment that pariah did as the opening track to their last album. It clearly states that "this is not the same as the previous dredg outing." This is one of my favorite tracks on the album. It's simple, somewhat haunting and kinda beautiful in it's simplicity.

                            Upon Returning:
I did not have high hopes for this song based on the live recording...which actually did grow on me a bit..but i still didn't think it'd be that great. No. The album version of this song is way better than anything we've heard live. It's the hardest song on the album by far. I see it as a poppy tanbark.

                            The Tent:
Those of you who describe this song as sexy.....I don't know if I'd say that... at all...or ever. However, this song would be much better if it didn't the horrible/repetitive chorus. And actually, I don't even mind the chorus the 1st time...it's the next 500 times that bother the fuck out of me.

                            Somebody is Laughing:
This song has a lot more 'classic' dredg guitar & feel to it than a lot of the other songs. With minor alterations this would fit in nicely on PPTD. This is another high point of the album for me.

                            Down Without a Fight:
Here's another wtf moment. I really like it...but it does not resemble any dredg that you may be familiar with...at all. This is the song in the video of Drew making the Chuckles mask....

                            The Ornament:
This is actually a low point of the album for me. Just cause it's been around forever...and yes, I realize this is the first studio version with lyrics...but because of the history behind it, it actually sounds odd to be on this album. I like it, and actually, this is a stylized call-back to cwoa...it's a bit faster and a bit more upbeat (not the lyrics, but the musical vibe) which I feel hurt the song a bit...but it's still the Ornament...and if this was a stand-alone song, I would have zero issue with it....it's just kinda displaced on this album i think....it's not worth it would actually fit better here i think.

                            The Thought of Losing you:
Whatever your opinions on this song, it's actually a pretty good bridge between this song and previous dredg outings. It has a classic dredg structure with poppy influences from this album. It really is one of the more guitar driven tracks on the album.

                            Kalathat:
A real slow down to the album. Actually the album started really slowing down with the ornament (even though I said it was faster paced than it should be...you'll hopefully understand more when you hear it). Anyway, there isn't a whole lot musically interesting going on here...but it's a nice laid back, simple track that could be used as a soft interlude into a much more up-beat song during a live show.

                            Sun Goes Down:
I listened to this whole song again trying to think of what to write about it, and honestly this is all I came up with. I don't hate it, at all actually, there's just nothing remarkable to say about it.

                            Where I'll End up:
This is lyrically, not at all different from what we've heard live... the vibe I got from this is that it's really 'happy.' That's not at all what I got from the original live recording I heard...nor from really listening to the lyrics. I was expecting something pretty dark for this song...and it's just not there. This is actually the biggest disappointment on the album for me. Which is too bad, cause I like Gavin's lyrics on this song.

                            Before It Began:
Those of you expecting a Quotes or Canyon ending are going to be disappointed with this song. It's no where near the kind of epic that those songs convey. However, this is a very fitting closing track for THIS album. It has a similar feel to me that lightswitch had...there's something mildly western about it. I wish it was actually a bit slower than what it is...I could see this being tweaked live and being a good closing song to a concert.

Over all - this really is going to be dreadful to some dredg fans, great to some and just ok to others. (that covers the whole spectrum I know...but whatever)

The music is interesting and without gavin singing over it, it would be a completely different band on some tracks... when Gavin's lyrics are good, they're just that...good...when they're bad, they're some of the lamest stuff he's written.

All in all though, I personally like it for what it is and will give it plenty of listens. I hope others like it as much as I do...but if you don't, I completely understand why at the same time.

First off, I really like CWA. A lot... And I would say that this album is mostly comparable to CWA. I'd call Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy an electronic sounding CWA, if that makes any sense.

                                Well put, Scott.

I kind of see what Brock was talking about with his concern about how people will react to the album... but seriously, it happens with every album. People dropped off when El Cielo came out, new people showed up. People dropped off with CWA, new people showed up. People dropped off with PPD, new people showed up. The effect is going to be a lot stronger this time, but still... it's the same cycle bands like dredg always go through. No one is going to stop being a Nickelback fan because Nickelback puts out the same album over and over. Nickelback fans don't like change. dredg fans love change. It might just be in the wrong direction for some.
