He said that pot smokers, pot smugglers, and pot dealers were all usually very easy to handle. They would basically apologize while the cuffs are being applied. The drunks on the other hand, as we all know, would go through mood swings and get violent. Then he talks about a good, hardworking family that he arrested. The parents were balling crying; not because they were going to jail, but because social services were taking their children. Cooper actually saw the kids report cards during the bust and they were straight A's. I can see how scenes like that would tend to change your opinion. Clearly the prohibition of pot was far worse for the children than their parents' use.

        I wasn't impressed. I'd like to know what led to the raid and what made it illegal. That, and parents ALWAYS think their kids are God's gift... of course he says his daughter is innocent.

        I just don't think police corruption is as rampant as people think. And personally, making pot legal isn't going to change too much. It'll still be illegal to be high in public, driving, at the workplace or what have you. You'll only be able to smoke at home. There's a laundry list of misconceptions about how great making pot legal will be. I don't smoke, though, so I guess we can make it legal for all I care.

          They could at least make it legal to smoke the stuff in hash bars. I don't think being high in public will be a problem. Seriously, pot heads don't go around starting trouble like drunks. That's why public drunkeness is an issue.

          And to say that you can't drive or go to work high is common sense. Alcohol is legal, but you can't go to work drunk. I would never go to work stoned.

          The reason why the raid was illegal is because the search warrant was obtained through illegal means. The use of thermal imaging requires warrants, as does any legal, non-consented search. And sure the guy thinks his daughter is innocent, but the informant that ADMITTED UNDER OATH that he planted the drugs in the house FOR THE COPS should be enough to overturn the conviction. But we're talking about Texas here.

          We're not talking about some lifelong stoner in Barry Cooper, either. The guy was a narcotics agent for years before realizing how damaging to good, hard-working families the war on pot is.

          LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY:
          Instead of worrying about the misconceptions of the effects of legalization, try to justify the prohibition of it. Try to do it without the old misconceptions of it causing violence (which everyone with half a brain knows is untrue). Now, when you come up with those reasons, think of the fact that Oxycontin is legal. Methadone is legal. Morphine is legal. More people die in a year from prescription overdoses than have EVER been recorded from marijuana. I guess the DEA needs to make sure their podnuhs keep the market cornered.
