    Re: Eurovision

It was particularly shite this year...and we (UK) were the shittiest of that shite...it would help if they could get a singer and backing singers who can sing in tune, and a song with a bit of 'something'.. I didn't particularly like the German winners song but it had a bit of spark and she looked good too.

It's time we either pulled out (and as we bankroll the fucking thing, that would probably finish it off) or we get a name artist in it.. Radiohead offered to do it a few years ago, and Pain Of Salvation got into Sweden's final 3 this year too.

Oh yes, they should ban voting for a country you have a border with.

Only one song summed up Eurovision this year…

PIANO? RAVE PADS?! CHUNKY BIRDS? OPERATICS? EPIC SERIOUS AS FUCK BREAKDOWN? KEY CHANGE?!!!!!!!

I have the formula to a successful Eurovision song.

Instrumentation: You need a violin player doing 360° spins on a platform. Maybe you can doctor up some folk version of this violin. Or for that matter, throw all of your nationalities folk instruments into the song, along with some typical rave lead synths.

NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT: KEY CHANGE. The only way of getting votes is to throw key changes in.

      Gimmicks: YOU NEED AWESOME GIMMICKS.

Spain had a great one, getting a random member of the audience to join them on stage, which sadly led to them re-performing a song. Also, Leo Sayer? WIN!

Having a DJ is not a gimmick (Turkey)

Oh, and the usual country voting politics will over ride the above.

What the hell is Eurovision? America/Britain's Got Talent for an entire continent? With one representative for each country?

          Re: Eurovision

          No, it's far, far worse!!!

It's over 50 years old now.. once a year a televised 'song competition' is held. Each European country enters an artist/song. The winning country get the 'honour' of staging the event the following year. It's spawned a few stars over the years, the most famous being ABBA who won with 'Waterloo' back in the 70's, then Celine Dion won for France. A few years back, Finland entered the metal band Lordi as their entry- more as a joke than anything.. AND WON!!

Since the break up of the soviet union and the Balkan states all going their seperate ways, it's meant loads more countries entering and as the voting is a telephine vote by the people, you seem some real 'vote for thy neighbour'...

We (The UK, via the BBC) are one of the major funders of the whole thing, yet every year we enter a shit song written by some unknown talentless hack, so this year we decided to change all that...we allowed a well known talentless hack write it-Pete Warterman- he of Stock,Aitken and Waterman fame for 20 years ago (Rick Astley being a fine testament to his 'work'). The song was utter crap, and the guy singing it couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

Yep....and he BEAT several others to get to sing for the UK!!!

Ironically, the Cyprus entry was by a group from Wales...... figure that one out...

To be honest, he's not our 'worst ever'... this

                  Re: Eurovision

fail. How can the background vocalists fail so much, they're paid to keep in fucking tune. Don't tell me Britain couldn't find 3 girls that look decent and can sing in tune. No even worth mentioning that dude. That's your own damn fault.

On the other hand, Sweden sends fairly good songs, with artists that actually can sing, every year. It still goes to shit.

Why is the UK rocking a "spanish"/latin song?

Because that's the point of Eurovision. It's all about the face-palms and O.o moments!

The idea is to not have a fucking clue how to make music and then steal another country's traditional instrumentation and, like, put some trance synths on it, and an operatic singer (sometimes), and hide it with some gimmicks.

Most countries do it right. Look at Serbia and Slovenia this year. Rockin tunes based on their own folk music.

Great stuff. Sweden rip from indians.

We already have that. It's called Miss (Teen) USA. And it's far more entertaining since there's always some dumb girl that makes it to the question stage and fails miserably.
