Well I'll be waiting for that package to arrive in the mail. By the way Cribble, you seem to be the person to ask about this. I want to get a synth to play around with. I'm not looking for something of incredibly high quality and even some older "vintage" style equipment would be awesome. I'm currently looking on picking up a Casio VL-1 to play with. Got any recommendations.
ooo. Casiotone. Good choice. Ok, first thing you have to remember, it's not going to be a real synthesis experience, but you can make it a million times better by using guitar pedals. I recommend buying a guyatone md (micro delay). That'll give you some messed up delays. Get a fuzz pedal for some dirt. Get an octaver aswell, they sound wicked. Oh, if the keyboard doesn't have an output, slap a guitar pickup on the speaker and solder it to a jack... And off you pop. Casios are bad ass

Thanks a ton for that. I figured I'd do just about everything you just suggested aside from the bit about the guitar pickup. My plan was to get rid of the thing's speaker and throw a jack on there anyways but I couldn't think of how I'd do it. Thanks again. I'll have to get around to setting this up ASAP.
Oh, you can hook it up to a speaker if you want to. When you break the casio open, unsolder the wires connected to the speaker. There should be two wires. You just solder those to a jack plug, swap them around if they're soldered the wrong way (low-signal, buzzing, 60cycle hum etc). The thing is, as soon as you start modifying things like that, it's best to run it off batteries, as you can sometimes induce a shock. Read up a lil on circuit bending aswell, that'll give you an idea about wiring, adjustments, modifications and getting some crazy sounds with out using external effects... this will make it feel more synthesis!
Oh, and a circuit bent toy is about 400%+ it's original value! (check out circuit bent speak and spells, they go for about £200 sometimes)
