Word, word... After I got away from the situation for a minute, I talked to someone wiser than myself and they helped me look at it from another view.

I guess Im not really offended as much as I am dissapointed...By that I mean, In my "perfect, utopian" (and quite naive) world, we wouldnt distinguish people simply by a "people group" they belong to... also known as stereotyping.

Having a magazine called "Todays Black Woman" flagrantly draws a line between black women, and everyone else. To me, it seems to further the lines between race and gender relations. Why cant they just call it something else. If it is a predominantly african american publication that focuses on women, why not just let everyone decide for themselves if that is their cup of tea."Todays Black Woman" sounds like its excluding men, and other ethicities in the title alone. Again, I dont think there should be a Todays Hispanic Male, a Current Jewish Weekly, a White Women Weekly...etc.

Im not saying we should all shed our culture and melt into one faceless people, Im just saying I dont think we need to need to promote exclusions, and I definatly dont think we should let some do it while holding others to a different standard.

I understand and empathize with your basic point about social separation and exclusion. However, I don't think a magazine such as "Black Woman" promotes separation and exclusion per se as much as it may reinforce it. The same can be said of any genre or group definition. The same goes with music. Why classify dredg as "rock" when there's more to their sound than that? But that's the way we do things in society, and your complaining about something that could be described more accurately as human failure than any particular group's malicious intent.
