too early to tell this yrs favs. But M83, TV on the Radio, Sigur Ros, Portishead, Notwist, Foals, Woven, Girl Talk, Beck, Bon Iver, and Santogold are give-ins.

as for next yr. dredg and Glassjaw. But the next MGMT should be weird. I'd say the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vedera, Decemberists, Jeremy Enigk, One Am Radio, DJ Shadow(?), Division Day, Andrew Bird, Cage, Circa Survive(?), and Rival Schools (yes, it's happening).

Probably more, but thats off the top of my head.

Yep yep. Apparently they are using the producer who worked with them on Frengers.

see the pic on the left?..that's my AOY

                            the rest:
We finally have a classic record for 2008. It took awhile, but clearly, the Apes and Androids record finally popped into the hemispheres and has grabbed the thrown by the neck. ORIGINAL..maybe being the biggest reason why. There's nothing like it this year or possibly ever. The rest of this mass of records go from samey, mid-level, to decent..to a handful of them being quite good..but..NOT CLASSICS at this point. The other concern I suppose at this point in late July is, there aren't a ton of known anticipated records, which probably means a lot of the best stuff in the near future may find it's way to be not available til sometime in 2009. This could be premature, but 2008 may not even compare much at all to 2007. But maybe more along the lines of 2006. Some good stuff, and a few near-classics. But depth-wise..it may not be the massive year, during-the-year, that it was hoped to be. What that could mean is how incredible 2009 will turn out to be instead. But, then again, 2007's worst actually turned out to be the veterans, and that is much of the same thinking about those bands who have new albums coming out in the near future. Time should tell.

I imagine near the end of the year I'll post something more exstensive in my blog and link it here. But right now, I need to avoid being homeless before December 31st.

Erik, do you think you'll be doing a "Music you should have heard.." for 2008 like you did in '07? I came across a lot of great music I'd never heard before with your list.

Haven't really been keeping up with new music this year, but.. Favorites for me this year:

                              Opeth
                              God Is An Astronaut
                              City and Colour
