Singers

In my ever-present quest for new music to listen to, I've found that more and more, the decision as to whether I like the band comes down to the singing (and lyrics for that matter).

Just wondering what bands you like because the singing really impresses you.

I'm getting bored of my collection right now, so maybe this'll help me to find something new.

Here's what I've been impressed with lately:

FAIR TO MIDLAND: I really like the singer's ability to "tremolo" his voice and the power he can manage when he sings high pitched.

MARS VOLTA: At first annoying as hell, but once you get used to it, his technique is impressive, love the new album.

If you want to listen to an amazing "singer".... look into Roger Miller. Sure, it's country, but if you can get past the whole "I'm young and I must have rock to listen to you stupid son of a bitch" trip you may find something in it and surprise yourself while doing so. Truth be told: Roger Miller was a fucking genius and is a lot better than most of the country artists from the same period (the late 50's-60's).

i agree with you...if the singer doesn't settle well with me, i more than likely will not appreciate the band...

i don't have a particular vocalist style that i appreciate more than others though....a vocalist for one style of music may not mesh well, but if he/she were to sing for a different band, with a different style, it could work very well.

as such, here is a list of some bands i like that i enjoy the vocalists from...hopefully you don't know of some...but...you probably will...

to diverge a bit....i've gotten into a lot more instrumental bands lately...if they're good...they don't need vocalists...their music tells a story by itself.

for me, most singers bug the crap out of me; i feel as though they ruin the music, as they rarely compliment the music. but that is just me. sorry, i wish i could be more helpful in your quest for a better lead singer. however, maybe this will help me. if you want to know some music with bands without lead singer, let me know.

i don't get locked into singers like most people
i am really impressed by anthony green and rx bandits
anthony green seemed overrated until i saw him live and saw the power he has behind his voice

i would say, though, that if i meet any band member and find out they are a complete jerk, i will stop supporting the band completely. this is one of the reasons why i will never listen to tool again.
