  • CAMS B-Sides

    Dredg, (Tentative) B-Sides Collection
Cali rockers Dredg have typically taken 3-4 years between efforts, but considering this year’s Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy came sooner than we’d normally expect, we are hoping for something sooner rather than later. When MTV News asked Dredg for a comment on new material, bassist Drew Roulette revealed the group is “considering” releasing a collection of B-sides (recorded songs that never made it onto an album). They have plenty of good ones to choose from as two Catch Without Arms outtakes – "Stone By Stone" and "The Uplifting News Channel" – are both musical gems in the Dredg musical canon as far as we’re concerned

    Hope to hear something good!

They never specified CAMS B-sides, so c'mon, let's not assume the worst.

      Holding a Remedy Potion
      Push Away
Time Will Tell (I can't believe they didn't put that one on CAMS, honestly)
      The Warbler
      On Again, Off Again
      Wondrous Miracle

      done
I don't have the time it takes to recover from the day
I sit and moan and mope and groan and never have my say
A crown of thorns from which is born a little baby bird
To fly away and have its day is nothing but absurd

I don't know why I left the Industry Demos out. They just seem well-realized already.

            Considering = Not happening.

They've been considering a b-sides album since Catch.

              I thought CAMS was a b-sides album.

Honestly, I've never really been a fan of Time Will Tell or On Again, Off Again. Obviously, you can't dig too deep into b-sides because they didn't make the cut for the band, either. But I'm hoping for the day that we hear a completed version of Holding a Remedy Potion, although it'll probably never happen.

I like both, but I can see how you might not care for it. On Again, Off Again had the most to do with the drum take involved. Time Will Tell is just a cool song with a solid groove. Either way, I think both songs were better than 2/3s of the last official release, especially when you consider that someone else wrote 3 songs on the album.

For the longest time, I thought for sure there was a proper release of On Again, Off Again. I love that song. There seemed to be a pretty distinct theme going on with Coquette, and it fit right in with the other songs.

On Again, Off Again = win, and must be included. (Shit, I'd be ecstatic if they just released a properly-sourced version of Coquette in its entirety, though I'm 110% sure that will never happen).

Time Will Tell = weak sauce. Would gladly take any of the other PPD era demos over it, and PPD itself is all the better for not having included it.

There are only so many options. I think Time Will Tell was better than 2/3 of CAMS.

Honestly, I think I would rather not have a b-sides album than have one. I mean, I would not mind having a new (to me) song or two, and some cleaned up versions of old rarities, but it's basically a guarantee of dredg putting out ANOTHER record I will not look back on fondly. Put out a good dredg rock record first, then shoot out another half-assed effort. Don't lay two eggs in a row, though.
