i'm a huge dredg fan, but i have to agree about lyrics going downhill...

although this one from el cielo still takes the cake:
and babies are born, in the same buildings where people go, to pass away.

by the way, i'm buzzingwhitenoise. newbie.

I took that part of the lyrics to be tongue-in-cheek.
I can see a washed out moon through the fog.

        yeah.

We saw it coming with songs on CWA.

A lot of bands get worse lyrically as they go on, I don't know why. Maybe laziness or always "shooting more for the radio"

Yeah, that was an anomaly on El Cielo though.

el cielo and leitmotif had some great lines but this new shit....

                it's pathetic.

even cwa had some lines i really adore.

Yeah, but isn't it common knowledge that they used to do drugs all the time? I'm sure that's why Leitmotif and El Cielo had more color. Now they're cleaner and older so they're probably not too worried about the deep poetic meanings that the songs could bring. Their music is simpler too, though many non-musicians wouldn't know the difference.

                        Which was fine.

Just because you're not doing drugs anymore doesn't mean you shouldn't still pay careful attention to your craft.

For such a serious subject on the new album, the lyrics sound so flippant.

No, I think the lyrics on Of the Room are horrible. Especially the chorus.

                          "Night falls beneath candle light,
                          White squalls beneath winter skies,"

Just cheesy. Reminds me of that scene from Wedding Crashers when the chick is laughing at her sisters wedding vows.

yeah and 'i don't know' has a great theme - the whole sort of agnostic viewpoint. but i feel like it could've gone deeper. instead of repeating 'i don't know' over and over and 'been reborn in a past life'...does seem a little lazy

would have much preferred those lyrics over

"just a little bit. just a little bit. a little more information!"
